My New Plant Pet – Hoya Kerrii

Posted on 6th August 2011 in Botanique

I first saw this heart-shaped hoya plant, Hoya Kerrii, on internet while about choosing a gift for a friend. In the website, it sells cute small plants. Many types of plant with creative decorations surrounding those plants. I did not know its name as well, until today when somebody pasted the link on the facebook to me about the bazaar in Orchard Central Mall of a small stall selling Marimo. Well, when I reached there just now, 5 Aug 2011, I saw some other cute plants and Hoya Kerrii.

The Seller put those Hoyas on the lower table, it’s a little bit hidden though. Ouuu… Finally, I found this plant and it’s written there “Hoya Kerrii”, this is the 1st time I know this plant’s name. I kept thinking of buying it but my bedroom is not big enough to put so many things. But I bought it!!! ~*~.

My Hoya Kerrii - 5 Aug 2011

My Hoya Kerrii - 5 Aug 2011

And This is my Hoya Kerrii, just got it back to my home after accompanying me for dinner. I don’t really understand how to treat this type of plant but I asked the seller on how to take care of it. It needs to be watered every week, and only need 1 tablespoonful of water. It needs weeks to months to wait for the babies to come out, and may be years to have the chance to see its flower blooming. It lives on coconut husk very well, so i need to hunt for it in order to get its home bigger and bigger. Oouugghh…Getting EXCITED to decorate and buy it a new bigger house. By the way, I’m a little worried about the leaf touching the soil line, would it be rotted?

Well, when I browsed on internet, found out that there are a lot of types of Hoya and seems it is a thick-leaf plant. I think its thick-leaf is used to keep the water in the plant longer, that’s why it does not need to be watered so often, hmmm.. am i right? supposed to be…And Hoya Kerrii even has total green leaf and variegated, so it could has more varieties. Its heart-shaped leaf looks so unique till I was thinking that somebody has done it in purpose for commercial. hehe…

Anyway… It’s pretty nice as a house plant since there is not much spaces in SG!!!

Cheers,

~*~.
